    I have very dirty knees

I also have rioja*, so it's not all grimy

    And Aniseed Balls

The reason for all of this is because I have been decorating. With a hoe.

    Gardening in the sun
The rocket is still growing everywhere. We have solved the bug problem on the mint. The courgette is flowering profusely, the basil has decided it doesn't want to be bonsai - and we've just sampled the first carrot!

And the radishes have pretty flowers.

    Nightcooking
    Deserves a quiet night?

Actually, it's good when it's all wind and rain and howling outside. But this was totally unplanned. Saturday night I was making mango chutney and mango sorbet (with earl grey tea) in the middle of the night, and it's surprisingly turned out nice. The sorbet is a little granular, but this is expected as we went to bed instead of staying up to attack it with a fork at a quarter to one.

    Mango is very sticky

Yesterday I was making rhubarb fool at about 11pm. This is terribly bad for you. Though does contain one of your five-a-day fruit and veg portions. Which is why I have one for breakfast.

Now, what can I do with the rest of the rhubarb?

    Cocktail Cock Tales
I had a pretty cute queer boy on my couch last night.

Meanwhile, Simon is here - we've had cheese, the Plank and a selection of wines for lunch, been for short stroll, and are now planning dinner.

Obviously we should be drinking cocktails

We currently have "Kiss the boys goodbye" with Wallace and Gromit
Cognac, Sloe Gin, Lemon Juice and egg white - shaken, not stirred.

we are plotting a Blue Star... but the ingredients list is downstairs.

we also have gin, whisky, vermouth, blue bols, creme de menthe, apricot brandy, but very little vodka. Juices of various descriptions.

    So, what do you recommend?

I'd have a grasshopper, or brandy alexander, but [info]malachan still has the creme de cacao!

    Belated Centenary
As the poets have mournfully sung,
    Death takes the innocent young,
    the rolling-in-money,
    the screamingly-funny,
and those who are very well hung.

    Bikes
    I have very sore hands.

This is because I've cycled about 35-40 miles on my new bike.  Many other parts of me are sore too.

The hands though are sore because of very weird and pointy handlebar grips.  I bought gloves off a very pretty boy* in Halfords in Rickmansworth, where I accidentally ended up.  Rickmansworth is very pretty too.  And has nice coffee shop. I got very muddy on the canal.  Twas great fun.

Sadly as I was cycling back I felt something funny going on with my left foot.  Initially thinking my shoelaces were coming undone, hence my trainer was sliding, I stopped - to find the pedal nearly falling off.  I took it off and the threads of the screw are knackered.  And I had to put it back together twice on the way home.  I am not impressed.  New bike, bought Tuesday.  Should last more than two days.  It's a Rayleigh.  And it's a Mountain Bike - it should be able to cope with a canal towpath! Despite the mud.  Canal very picturesque after Uxbridge, see pictures.

*Very pretty boy.  In fact we'd noticed each other on the street before hand.  Though I suspect that I was noticing he was pretty, and he was noticing I was covered in mud.

Time. I see there's a new development.  Instead of an american time, my comments are now listed as "UTC"
Closer inspection shows this is actually GMT - Greenwich Mean Time.
UTC presumably stands for Universal Time Calamity.

Is this just another example of americans not liking the connotations of something that already has a name?

    Like French Fries?

    Or the Geneva Convention?

[I also like that the LJ spellcheck recognises GMT... and Greenwich... but not UTC]

    Rain!  Lots of rain!

Got soaked coming from bus stop to Co-op (all of fifteen yards).  Everybody very happy though and even the usually austere and aloof manager type fella chatted happily at me.

Then I was accosted by a guy on a bike who said "Yo, filthyfeet, ya no..."

Maybe the rain didn't come soon enough - and he's been permanently affected by the sun.

I am eating something that is allegedly apple streudel.  It seems to be apple cake encased in filo pastry.

And I've run out of coffeee.

We have though booked one hotel and <s>two</s> four trains.

    Germany
I'm going to Hannover in a fortnight ... not entirely sure why, but decided a holiday was necessary, and needed to go before E starts new job, and there wasn't many places I could go to with airmiles - I haven't been to Hannover and the name sounds good.   Apparently Vienna was full unless you were a business man (I told the secretary I was going to Vienna).

So any ideas? What can we do in Hannover?  (Or is it Hanover? There seems to be some debate) "A friend of mine lived there and said it was horrible" is so far the only comment we've had.  Should we leave immediately and go to Berlin or something?

Must remember to tell the boss, actually.

    The lettuce is nice :)
And it's recovered from being nearly deaded by the heat.

And you can wash the red aphids off.

Rioja is nice too.  And it goes well with chocolate.
    And cheese.   Cheese is good.
